Gérald Genta Arena in red and black

The Arena collection begins the year 2008 by exalting the Genta style: favourite colours, original materials, daring design and top-flight complications, all interpreted in highly refined variations.

With its fluted case middle and protected crown, the round Arena line is ready for all kinds of adventures. A sports watch capable of taking on an aristocratic air, and a traditional model that enjoys making light of conventions… Since 2004, a dual time-zone display and a perpetual calendar share the stage while forming a sophisticated rosette design. The second time-zone and calendar counters are distinguished by their shared preference for distinguishing between an even-number circle and an odd-number circle. Meanwhile, the days and months are displayed on rotating discs placed on either side.

The two 2008 versions of the Arena QP GMT feature a titanium case topped with a platinum bezel. Light metal and heavy metal form a contrasting matt and brilliant composition that is particularly pleasant to wear. The signature red and black Gérald Genta colours are highlighted on the alligator leather straps and dials designed in a mechanical spirit clearly inspired by the automobile world.

The construction of the multi-layer dial is particularly sophisticated, featuring a perforated base that provides glimpses of the Potter-finished movement. The distinction between the GMT and perpetual calendar displays is accentuated by the use of colours. Harmony reigns through the dagger-shaped hands used for the local hours and minutes as well as for the dual time zone and date. The 2,4,8 and 10 numerals are applied and polished, as are the rims of the day and month counters, echoing the shiny brilliance of the bezel.

On the reverse side, the self-winding movement visible through a sapphire case-back is equipped with a solid gold rotor and graced with exclusive Gérald Genta finishing. The old-gold “Potter” colour and concentric circular graining create a modernised vintage look radiating an air of non-conformist understatement.

The Gerald Genta Arena White Spice watch is a provocative creation of daring haute horlogerie, which draws its inspiration from the 1970’s, as well as the creations of fashion designers André Courrèges and Paco Rabanne.

A development of the Arena Spice watch which was introduced by Gerald Genta in 2007, this new variation courts modern women of style with its youthful spirit, boldly exotic design, luxurious craftsmanship, and casual elegance.

The stainless steel case measures 41mm in diameter, and stands out for its electrifying combination of white rubber and scintillating round brilliant diamonds; a white rubber strap compliments the bezel adornment, providing the impression of relaxed elegance.

Remarkable for its intricacy and exceptional attention to detail, the dial delights in playfulness and color. Crafted from polished metal and mother of pearl which is applied with luminous dots, and a section of apertures, through which the strikingly colored jump hour disc peeks out. A “preview” of the upcoming hour can be made out through two frosted sapphire windows which appear just to the right of the jumping hour aperture.

This arrangement of brilliant color takes its inspiration from the creations of Swiss Expressionist painter Johannes Itten. Meanwhile, minutes are shown in a semi-circle in the upper dial area, by means of a black-lacquered hand, whose shape and open-worked pattern cleverly matches the dial pattern that lies beneath it.

At the turn of the hour, one can thus observe two fascinating actions, both of which are a technical specialty of the house of Gerald Genta: the jump hour disc advances in the blink of an eye, and the retrograde minute display simultaneously leaps back to zero.

The surprising and delightful complications of the Arena White Spice watch are animated by a self-winding mechanical movement, which has been carefully adjusted and decorated by skilled watchmakers.
