È partita la 17° edizione di Jewellery Arabia 2008, una delle più importanti esposizioni internazionali di gioielli e orologi di lusso, e di certo la più grande per il Medio Oriente.
Si terrà fino al 29 novembre presso il Bahrain International Exhibition Center, e qui gli appassionati del lusso troveranno il più grande e dinamico mercato di preziosi al mondo, grazie anche alla sua posizione privilegiata, tra l’Arabia Saudita, il maggiore cliente di pietre preziose, e il Golfo Arabico, con i suoi emiri e sultani.
In questa sede prestigiosa, sarà possibile trovare preziosi per ogni occasione, dal semplice in oro da indossare tutti i giorni, al pezzo esclusivo e personalizzato, adatto al proprio status o per un evento particolare.
Jewellery Arabia amplia il proprio target, consentendo a un pubblico sempre maggiore di fruire delle esclusive collezioni private in vendita, e ottenendo un fatturato annuale di circa 30 milioni di dollari.
La fiera da Mille e una Notte ha come obiettivo quello di attrarre i mercanti di gioielli e i collezionisti privati da tutto il mondo arabo, in particolare dal Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Arabia Saudita, Emirati Arabi e stati attigui.
Tra le meraviglie esposte, si potranno ammirare gioielli d’epoca, orologi, parure di diamanti e pietre preziose, gemme, pezzi unici artigianali d’oro e d’argento.

Sarà un preziosissimo pezzo unico l’orologio commissionato da un milionario europeo alla maison svizzera Vacheron Constantin. L’esemplare arriverà al costo di 6,5 milioni di dollari apprestandosi a diventare uno dei segnatempo più costosi del pianeta.
Il design, che richiederà anni prima di essere portato a termine, prende spunto dal Tour de l’Ile che la casa orologiera ha creato per il duecento cinquantesimo anniversario nel 2005 in soli sette esemplari e definito come l’orologio a due facce più complicato al mondo.
 

Un libro dedicato agli orologi più belli della casa svizzera per celebrarne il centenario

Rolex festeggia nel 2008 il suo centenario e lo fa, tra le altre cose, con un libro edito da Damiani dedicato ai cento orologi più belli della manifattura, “100 Superlative Rolex Watches”.

L’autore, John Goldberger, collezionista e studioso di orologi, ha trovato gli esemplari con un paziente lavoro di ricerca presso i maggiori collezionisti di molti Paesi del mondo e li ha fotografati in modo da evidenziare al meglio le caratteristiche di movimento, cassa e quadrante.

Con più di 700 immagini a colori e oltre 400 didascalie, le pagine di questo libro rendono note al collezionista, ma anche al semplice appassionato, una grande quantità di informazioni e dettagli per ogni singolo pezzo, presentato: reference number, casse, quadranti, movimenti, calibri e anno di produzione.

Gemwatchmaker IceLink has launched its latest creation: the Snow 6 Timezone.  The Snow 6 Timezone is a true paradox between two distinctly different approaches: on the one hand it is the creative expression of indulgence without constraints, a vision of luxury without reservation or complex. The watchmaking company Eterna has presented a new, limited edition of fifty models, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the company’s KonTiki line. Already the explorer Thor Heyerdahl took an Eterna timepiece on his famous KonTiki expedition across the Pacific. These extremely sturdy and water-proof watches - a rarity in those times - developed into the Eterna KonTiki sports watch line. The KonTiki line has since come to symbolise the brand’s traditional identity. The new KonTiki Anniversary design has been modelled on the first KonTiki watch manufactured in the year 1958.

The KonTiki Anniversary line has been equipped with a new automatic Eterna 3010 movement with a fast-change date. Along with centrally positioned hour, minute, and second hands, the date can be read in a date window on the dial. The movement is a variation on the Eterna 3030 calibre movement, continuing the same slim line.

Modelled on the original KonTiki sports watch line, the watch dial depicts silhouettes of the Raroia Atoll - the successfully reached, but unintended destination, of the KonTiki expedition. The gold-plated triangular index marks filled out with a luminous coating on the domed dial pay homage to the original. Along with the highly characteristic triangular index marks, the hands - also gold-plated and filled out with a luminous coating - contrast against the black dial, ensuring easy readability at all times.

To mark the anniversary, Eterna has opted for polished and satin-finished red gold instead of stainless steel as usually used for watch cases in the KonTiki line, a decision to emphasise the exclusivity of this timepiece. Paying homage to the watch design fashions of the fifties, the watch’s forty-millimetre diameter is slightly smaller than the other models in the current KonTiki line. Like the original, the timepiece has a screw-in back sporting a KonTiki medallion. The engraving depicts the KonTiki raft in reminiscence of Thor Heyerdahl’s famous expedition. Apart from that, the timepiece is water-resistant at up to two hundred metres.

The brown crocodile leather strap with crossover stitching developed especially for the KonTiki line was inspired by the hawsers used in constructing the KonTiki raft. In addition, the red-gold buckle clasp symbolises the watch’s exclusive nature.

The KonTiki Anniversary is delivered in a hand-crafted box in the traditional Polynesian style sporting the KonTiki sun god motif. The exclusive series is planned to be available in the autumn of 2008.

The setting of the reference location can be corrected by means of the crown at the two o’clock position. Transfer of the time at the reference location to the hands is permitted by the button integrated in the crown at two o’clock.

While the time zone function of the watch is being adjusted, the automatic movement continues to run without any limitation – not one single second of the original setting is lost when the time zone is changed. Self-explanatory abbreviations are used to designate the reference cities. These three-letter codes are explained by an engraving on the back of the watch case.

The crown at the four o’clock position is used to adjust the minutes and the hour hand in the centre. In addition, this crown can be used to wind the watch. The “Clous de Paris” decoration of the crowns is not provided for aesthetic reasons alone: the decorative structure makes for a better grip on the crown.

The design of the Porsche Design Worldtimer P’6750 is typified by the usual understatement. Simple cylindrical forms shape the watch case which is made of the typical Porsche Design material, titanium. The typography, styling and colours of the dials emphasize the functional character of the watch.

In addition to the case in matte titanium, another version in titanium with a black PVD coating is also available. Both versions are fitted with a black caouchouc strap with a latitude and longitude pattern in profile on the inside. This makes for enhanced wearer comfort by allowing air to penetrate between the skin and strap. The folding clasp of the strap is also made of titanium.

The Tag Heuer watch encompasses the following functions - hours, minutes, seconds, date, chronograph with double rotating system, and tachometer scale. The functions are provided by the TAG Heuer 17 RS Calibre, a self-winding chronograph movement crowned by the prestigious COSC-chronometer-certification.

The TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 17 Pink Gold Chronograph has been developed in two versions: the first version with an elegant silver dial, and the second one with a tasteful brown dial (500 pieces in each dial color).

Both versions will spotlight framed chronograph dials with Cotes-de-Geneve-pattern decoration. The dial is completed with applied curved and facetted 18k-pink-gold hour-markers. The date window is positioned at 6 o’clock.

The satin-finished and polished 18K pink gold case of the Grand Carrera Calibre 17 Pink Gold Chronograph watch measures 43 mm in diameter. The construction of the model has incorporated screw-down push-pieces and crown also in 18K pink gold, as well as convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.

The double sapphire back is engraved with the piece’s individual number. The model boasts 100-meter water-resistance. The Tag Heuer watch goes on a hand-sewn alligator leather strap fitted with the 18K gold buckle.

The Grand Prix watch, water-resistant to 10bar/100 m, has been designed specifically with the motor sport enthusiast in mind. The sheer verve of the multi-part titanium case calls to mind the dynamic profile of racing cars. The carbon dial is presented in the sleek, high tech style of Formula 1. The black rubber strap, with its integrated flexible lugs conjures up images of racing tyres. And all the time the high-Mech movement with the famous Oris red rotor keeps moving, clearly visible through the window in the case back.
